Meet the B's

This is me, Kendra B.

Since most of you already know me, I will keep this short.  For those who don't, here is what is important: In the fall of 2009, my (now husband/then boyfriend) and I decided to pack up a moving truck and head down from the snowy midwest to the warm and sunny south.  We landed in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area and are so happy to be here.  Since we moved we have bought and renovated our first house, adopted a dog and another cat, and got married in September of 2011.  In the fall of 2012, we bought a new (to us) house and spent the better part of eight months renovating it, top to bottom.  I work as a nurse and I am so thankful to have a job that I truly enjoy.  Aside from all that, my favorite things to do are running/hiking with our sweet dog Lucy, yoga, cooking vegan foods, crafting (primarily crocheting and sewing), thrifting, taking road trips to the NC mountains, and of course spending time doing anything with my amazing husband, who I will now introduce to you...

This is my other half, Erik B.

Erik is first and foremost my best friend.  We have been through a lot together since we met in July of 2008, and our relationship only continues to grow stronger as time goes on.  If I were to make a list of words to describe him, it would include: honest, hardworking, intelligent, thoughtful, fast on a road bike, loving, funny, good at math, talented, ambitious, muscular, polite, deep voice, respectful, and devastatingly handsome  ;)
When we first met Erik was in business school with the intent to pursue a degree in law.  Prior to our move down south, he had a change of heart and decided to change his career path to his true passion in life, cycling.  He was lucky enough to find a job doing what he loves in the cycling industry (and getting to ride his bike while doing it!)  I am so proud of him for following his dream and so thankful that he has been so happy in his work.  I feel lucky everyday that we have each other and that we decided to take the giant leap of faith when we packed up our stuff and moved 700 miles away after only being together for a year.
I guess you can say it was a good move!  I have enjoyed the adventures we have had together as a couple so far, and look forward to the next chapter in our lives as we add to our nest...

Arlo Cameron B.

This amazing little guy came into this world on December 31, 2013.  He has changed our lives in more ways than we thought he ever could, and has filled our hearts with more love than we have ever known.  He is curious, energetic, loving, and so much fun.  He has a big appetite, big poops, and a big love for Lucy and the cats.  Watching him grow and change has been an incredible experience and to say we are blessed would be an understatement.  Loving you now and always, baby Arlo!!

Meet our four-legged kids:

Lucy B.

Lucy is our very sweet little dog.  She came to us from the Wake County animal shelter in December of 2010.  We believe her to be a mix of Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever and maybe some Sheltie.  Even though she is an adult now she still has a lot of puppy energy in her, and just about the best dog we could ask for.  We love her dearly, spoil her probably too much, and realize everyday how lucky we are to have her in our family!

Bosco B.

Bosco is the oldest of our children.  He has been with me since my early days in college, back when I lived in Kalamazoo, MI.  He is definitely a mama's boy, and while he seems to have adjusted well enough, has not been much of a fan of the recent additions to the family.  Lucy plays a little too rough, and Bosco is just past the stage in life of wanting to wrestle with an animal three times his size.  Very affectionate towards humans, but rather cantankerous in his older age, Bosco often keeps to himself but doesn't hesitate to vocalize his displeasure if things aren't going his way...

Bailey B.

Bailey is our other older mature cat who has been with me for nearly as long as Bosco.  She is as sweet as can be, but never hesitates to put Lucy in her place if she gets too rough.  She can be shy to people she doesn't know, but warms up quickly if you offer her a warm lap and will stay there as long as you are willing to pet her.. Bailey lives a pretty simple life, but does have a certain level of anxiety if the food bowl is low or (gasp) ever empty.  At 17 lbs, you don't exactly think of the word "petite" to describe Bailey, but we just like to think that there is more of her to love...

Fenway B.

We are still trying to decide if Fenway is mostly cat, dog, or human.  He has the physical qualities that suggest feline genetics, however he wrestles with Lucy like a dog, walks with us every single night around the entire neighborhood, snores loudly and drools in his sleep.  He is our mystery child!  We have known Fenway and enjoyed his company ever since we bought our first house in June of 2010, as he belonged to our next door neighbors and would visit us often...  When the neighbors moved to Boston last summer and mentioned that Fenway wouldn't be able to move with them, we quickly jumped at the opportunity to adopt him.  He is a neighborhood-patrolling, rodent-catcher by day and snoring, drooling, feet-warming, cuddler by night.  He is the most unique cat you will ever meet and we love the quirky things he does to surprise us on a daily basis!
Edit June 2013:  When we moved to our new house last month, we made the very tough decision to let our next door neighbors (and good friends) adopt Fenway so he could continue to live in the neighborhood he knows and loves so well.  We left him in the best care with a family that loves him dearly and we often get updates on the crazy things he is up to!  We miss him very much but fortunately still have the opportunity to visit whenever we want to, and we know he is safe, happy, and well taken care of in his new home.
